The new privacy policy of Facebook
Facebook begins to track users activities on the Internet, which would bring some advantages and disadvantages.
Firstly, it would allow Facebook know the location and information of users activities, which could reflect interests of users. For instance, a student often accesses to Emirates Stadium, he is probably a fan of Arsenal Football Club. So, he might be interested in football. The advantage of knowing the interests of users for Facebook is that Facebook could push targeted advertisements to users. For example, Facebook could push a football advertisement to the student above, a movie advertisement to the people who often show up in the cinemas, or a PlayStation advertisement to the people who always stay at home.
However, it also would bring Facebook some problems. On the one hand, some users may consider that their privacy was violated which may expose something they do not want others know. On the other hand, some users may feel troublesome when they receive the advertisements they do not want to see, which may reduce the users satisfaction.
To conclude, this policy would make Facebook become hot news, which is good for its promotion and advertising, because privacy is a pop issue currently. It would let Facebook collect more users information and push targeted advertisement according to these information. It also would bring some problems about crisis of trustworthiness of Facebook.
